This past week I finished up the last four figures from the Orcpocalypse Add-On set; the Orc Hunter figures. This set now joins the list of completed sets over on the right.
I prepped these figures in the usual way, washing them in some dish soap, lightly scrubbing them with a soft toothbrush, and then letting them dry. Then, like with the other figures from this set, I did conversions to some of them. Looking at the row below: The first orc had the right forearm from one of the Bones Gnolls added, and the left forearm from a GW Ogre. The second has had his hands drilled out and a cut-down GW lance added. The third orc has had the sword blade from one of the previous Bones Orc conversions added in place of the original spear head. The fourth orc is an untouched original, droopy spear and all. Note that any hard plastic part I was using, I pre-primed with flat black spray paint before gluing it on. Also, I used Gorilla Super Glue to affix all conversions.
After the conversions were done, I glued the four onto black primed 1.25 inch fender washers using Aleene's Tacky glue. I then glued them onto a tongue depressor, for ease of painting, using a couple drops of Elmer's white glue each.
I began by painting them entirely Black; and then when the Black was dry, I drybrushed them entirely with Folk Art Metallics "Gunmetal Grey".
I then painted their skin with with Aleene's "Deep Khaki". Next, I painted their cloth "skirts" hanging under the chainmail: Orc one with Crafter's Acrylic "Orange Spice", Orc two with Americana "Neutral Grey", Orc three with Black, and Orc four with Folk Art "Dapple Grey".
Next, I painted the boots of the first two, and then belt and neck straps of the second two, with Americana "Raw Umber". I then painted the belts and neck straps of the first two, and the boots of the second two, with Black. After that, I painted all the forearms wraps and straps with Anita's "Burnt Sienna", and on the first Orc I painted the bones on his right forearm as well as his morning star's handle with FolkArt "Barn Wood". I then painted the cord holding the bones to his wrist guard using Ceramcoat "Territorial Beige". I painted all the spear shafts with Crafter's Acrylic "Cinnamon Brown", and the streamer coming off the third Orc's spear with Reaper MSP Bones "Cinnamon Red". I painted all their teeth with Americana "Buttermilk".
I let everything dry for a while, then I gave them all a complete wash with Citadel "Agrax Earthshade" wash using a wet brush. When the wash was dry, I painted their eyes, using the "Buttermilk" for their "whites", and then I highlighted their teeth with Crafter's Acrylic "Light Antique White".
Next, I highlighted their skin with some of the "Deep Khaki" mixed with a little Aleene's "Dusty Khaki". I highlighted the tops of the spear shafts with Folk Art "Dark Brown". I then worked on highlighting their "skirts": for Orc one I used the "Orange Spice" mixed with a little Americana "Tangerine", for Orc two I used Folk Art "Rock Gray", for Orc three I used Citadel "The Fang", and for Orc four I used some of the "Dapple Grey" mixed with a little Folk Art "Gray Green". I highlighted the streamer hanging from the third Orc's spear using Folk Art "Deep Tomato Red". On the first orc, I highlighted the bones on his wrist guard and morning star handle with Americana "Bleached Sand". Finally, I went back and did highlights on all the metal using Folk Art "Silver Sterling".
After everything had dried overnight, I gave the figures a coat of Ceramcoat "Matte Varnish" and, when dry, flocked their bases. Another overnight dry, and I sprayed them with Testor's Dullcote".
I'm happy how they turned out, and happy to have completed this big set. Below is a picture of all the Orcs from the Bones I Core Set and the Orcpocalypse Set.

Orc Stalker: Figure 224-227 0f 266
Over the weekend I finished up the four Orc Stalker figures from the Orcpocalypse add-on set. This leaves me with only four figures left from this set to complete. As I have done in the past with the similarly-posed Orc figures from this set, I converted three of them to be different from the original. In the photo below, the first one is the original figure, the second has a new sword added to his raised hand, the third has a replacement GW club added (Not sure if it was orc or troll in origin) and his other hand repositioned, and the fourth has his arms repositioned to hold a spear. from one of the Orc Hunter figures.
I began by painting them entirely Black; and then when the Black was dry, I drybrushed the chainmail and spikey armor areas with Folk Art Metallics "Gunmetal Grey". I then went back and used the Black to repaint the fur areas where the "Gunmetal Grey" paint had gotten on them.
Next, I painted the furs on each of them, doing the top furs and lower fur in different colors. I usedAnita's "Burnt Sienna", Americana "Neutral Grey", and Folk Art "Dark Brown" as my fur colors, using diferent combinations on each figure. I then painted all their skin with Aleene's "Deep Khaki".
Next, I painted the club and the spear shaft with Nicole's "Brown". I then painted their teeth with Americana Buttermilk. I then painted the belts and pouch of the first and third one with Americana "Chocolate Brown"; and used the same color to paint the sword grips and wrist wraps the second and fourth figures. After everything had a few hours to dry, I gave all four figures a complete wash with GW "Agrax Earthshade" wash using a wet brush.
When the wash was dry, I painted their eyes, and highlighted the teeth, with the "Buttermilk". I then highlighted their skin with some of the "Deep Khaki" mixed with a little Aleene's "Dusty Khaki". I highlighted the spear shaft and club with Americana "Missippi Mud". Next, I painted the swords, and the head of the spear, with Americana "Zinc". When these parts were dry, I went back and re-painted them wiht Accent "Princely Pewter". I then used Folk Art Metallics "Gunmetal Grey" to highlights the swords and spear point, as well as clean up the rest of the metal parts on all four figures. Lastly, I painted their sculpted bases with Ceramcoat "Walnut".
After everything had dried overnight, I gave the figures a coat of Ceramcoat "Matte Varnish" and, when dry, flocked their bases. Another overnight dry, and I sprayed them with Testor's Dullcote".
I ended up having a busy weekend, so I cut a lot of corners in finishing these up; doing hardly any highlights. Nonetheless, I think they turned out pretty good for mass-unit tabletop pieces.

Orc Snipers (Archers): Figures 212-215 of 266
This weekend I finished up the four Orc Sniper figures from the Orcpoclypse add-on set. Ive got two more sets of four to go to complete this set.
I prepped these figures in the usual way, washing them in some dish soap, lightly scrubbing them with a soft toothbrush, and then letting them dry. I then did some conversions to them using Gorilla superglue gel. Looking at the row below; The first orc has his arm sliced at the shoulder and wrist, and repositioned back around to look like he is reaching for an arrow out of his quiver. The second has had his arm sliced at the shoulder and repositioned down to look like he is reaching for his short sword. The third and fourth orcs are unchanged.
After the conversions were done, I glued the four onto black primed 1.25 inch fender washers using Aleene's Tacky glue. I then glued them onto a tongue depressor, for ease of painting, using a couple drops of Elmer's white glue each.
I began by painting them entirely Black; and then when the Black was dry, I drybrushed the chainmail areas with Folk Art Metallics "Gunmetal Grey". I then went back and used the Black to repaint the fur areas where the "Gunmetal Grey" paint had gotten on them.
I then drybrushed the fur garments and the fur boot tops: for the first archer's fur tunic and the third archer's boot tops I used Americana "Zinc", for the second archer's fur tunic and the fourth archer's boot tops I used Crafter's Acrylic "Storm Cloud Grey", for the third archer's fur tunic and the first archer's boot tops I used Americana "Mississippi Mud", and for the fourth archer's fur tunic and the second archer's boot tops I used Folk Art "Dark Brown". Next, I painted their under-tunics: for the first archer I used Ceramcoat "Black Cherry", for the second I used Crafter's Acrylic "African Violet", for the third one I used Americana "Bittersweet Chloclate", and for the fourth I used Crafter's Acrylic "Navy Blue".
I then did their skin with Aleene's "Deep Khaki". Next, I did the belts and pouch on the first two, and the quiver and scabbard on the second two with Nicole's "Brown". I then reversed this, doing the belts and pouch on the second two, and the quiver and scabbard on the first two with Crafter's Edition "Spice Brown". I painted the padding on their wrist guards with Americana "Khaki Tan", and the straps, as well as the sword grips, with Americana "Asphaltum". I then painted their bows with Crafter's Acrylic "Cinnamon Brown".
Next, I painted the fletchings on their arrows with Americana "Neutral Grey", and all the stitching on their belts, scabbards, quivers, and pouches with the "Khaki Tan". I painted their teeth with GW "Bubonic Brown". I then used the metallic "Gunmetal Grey" to paint all the metal fittings on their bows and short swords. Then, after the paint had a while to dry, I gave the figures all a complete wash with GW "Agrax Earthshade" wash using a wet brush.
When the wash was dry, I painted their eyes, and then highlighted their teeth with Americana "Buttermilk". Next, I highlighted all their skin with a mix of the original "Deep Khaki" mixed with a little Aleene's "Dusty Khaki" . I also highlighted each of their tunics with the original colors I had used. I highlighted their belts with Americana "Sable Brown", and hit the stitching again with the "Khaki Tan". I then repainted their boots Black, and then added highlights with the "Neutral Grey".
Though there's nothing extraordinary about them, I'm generally pleased with how they came out. I'm looking forward to seeing how the whole group of orcs looks set out toghether, including the ones from the original 30 New Bones set, when I finally get this set complete.

Orc Berserkers: Figures 202-205 of 266
This past weekend, I finished up the four Orc Berserker figures from the Orcpocalypse add-on set. As with the group of Orc Marauders (from the same set) that I finished recently, I tried to do minor conversions to each one to give them a little individuality.
I prepped these figures in the usual way, washing them in some dish soap, lightly scrubbing them with a soft toothbrush, and then letting them dry. I then did the conversions to them using Gorilla superglue gel. Looking at the row below; The first orc is untouched. The second has had his hands flipped around and repositioned opposite of the way they were so the sword now is in front of the orc. I also replaced the sword blade with one from one of the Orc Stalker figures. The third orc has had the sword removed, his hands drilled out, and a toothpick spear-shaft inserted. I borrowed the spearhead from one of the Orc Hunter figures. The fourth orc, has had his forearms removed and replaced with a pair from one f the Orc Stalker figures.
I then passed over them with a lighter drybrush of Folk Art Metallics "Silver Sterling".
I then painted their skin with with Aleene's "Deep Khaki". Next, I painted their cloth "skirts" hanging under the chainmail: Orc one with Americana "Terra Cotta", Orc two with Nicole's "Brown", Orc three with Americana "Zinc", and Orc four with Apple Barrel "Apple Black Green". I painted the grips on all the swords with the "Asphaltum", and the spear shaft with Americana "Mississippi Mud". I then painted the wrist guard wraps on the first two orcs with the "Asphaltum", and the second two with Americana "Charcoal Grey". Then, I painted their teeth with Americana "Buttermilk".
After everything had a chance to dry, I gave all four figures a complete wash with GW "Agrax Earthshade" wash using a wet brush. When the wash was dry, I painted their boots, belts, and straps wit Black. I hen painted their eyes with the "Buttermilk", and gave them black pupils.
I then did highlights to their skin using the original "Deep Khaki", then mixed a little of the "Deep Khaki" with Aleene's "Dusty Khaki" to do lighter highlights. After that, I did highlights on their "skirts", using the base color for Orcs one and two, Americana "Neutral Grey" for Orc three, and Folk Art "Hunter Green" for Orc four. Next, I did highlights on the wristguard wraps using the "Mississippi Mud", and on their boots, belts, and straps using the "Zinc". Lastly, I did highlights on all the metal bits using Folk Art "Silver Sterling".
After everything had dried overnight, I gave the figures a coat of Ceramcoat "Matte Varnish" and, when dry, flocked their bases. Another overnight dry, and I sprayed them with Testor's Dullcote".
I'm really happy how this guys turned out! I think they ended up really looking like individuals.

Orc Marauders: Figures 194-197 of 266
This week I took a break from working on the sets from the main Vampire Pledge group to work on the Orcpoclypse add-on set. There are four each of five different poses in this set, for a total of 20 figures. I decided to do them in groups of four like figures to speed up the painting process. I also decided to try to do slight modifications to each of the four like figures in attempt to make them look slightly less cookie cutter. In the photo below, the first figure is an unmodified original, the second has the bottom point of the shield cut off and re-glued at the top, the third has it's weapon swapped with the scythe head from the Darkrasp, Evil Priest conversion I did, and the fourth had his arm cut at the forearm wristguard, and repositioned at an downward angle. I had actually painted one of these Mauraders before when I was woking on the original 30 New Bones set back in 2013, so I already had a painting template I could follow.
I prepped these figures in the usual way, washing them in some dish soap, lightly scrubbing them with a soft toothbrush, and then letting them dry. I then did the modifications to them as i outlined in the paragraph above. Next, I glued the four onto black primed 1.25 inch fender washers using Aleene's Tacky glue. I then glued them onto a tongue depressor, for ease of painting, using a couple drops of Elmer's white glue each.
I began by painting them entirely Black; and then when the Black was dry, I drybrushed them entirely with Folk Art Metallics "Gunmetal Grey". I then passed over them with a lighter drybrush of Folk Art Metallics "Silver Sterling".
I then worked on the fur "skirts". I painted the first orc's Black, and the drybrushed it with Crafter's Acrylic "Storm Cloud Grey". The second orc's furs I painted Americana "Charcoal", and drybrushed Americana "Mississippi Mud". The third's was painted with Americana "Asphaltum" and drybrushed with Americana "Sable Brown". And, the fourth I used Americana "Zinc Grey", and dry drybrushed it Folk Art "Cloudy Day". I then painted their skin with with Aleene's "Deep Khaki". I then did all he belts, and straps with plain black . Next, I painted the grips on the first two swords with the "Asphaltum", and the second two with Accent "Real Umber". Then, I painted their teeth with Americana "Buttermilk".
I then thought I'd add some individuality to some of their shields, and painted two of them with Folk Art "True Burgundy"; feathering it towards the Black drybrushed with "Gunmetal Grey" edges, trying to make it look like the paint had been badly worn around the edges.
When everything had had time to dry, I gave the the figures a complete wash with GW "Agrax Earthshade" wash using a wet brush.
When the wash had dried, I painted the eyes with the "Buttermilk", going back and adding a black pupil in each eye. I also went back and highlighted their teeth with this color. I then did highlights to their skin using the original "Deep Khaki", then mixed a little of the "Deep Khaki" with Aleene's "Dusty Khaki" to do lighter highlights. I used the "Zinc Grey" to do highlighting on the belts and straps. Finally, I tidied up the swords, armor and chainmail with some of the "Gunmetal Grey".
After everything had dried overnight, I gave the figures a coat of Ceramcoat "Matte Varnish" and, when dry, flocked their bases. Another overnight dry, and I sprayed them with Testor's Dullcote".
I'm very pleased with how these guys turned out. It was fun giving each one it's own little bit of individuality.
Up next, we start the Dark Elves set.

Kavorgh, Orc Warboss: Figure 120 of 265
This week I painted Kavorgh, Orc Warboss from the BBEG set. I had done a number of Bones Orcs before from the 30 New Bones set, so I had a pretty good plan for how I was going to go about painting this guy.
I prepped this figure in the usual way; soaking it in a dish of water with a couple drops of dish soap added, then giving it a light scrub with a soft toothbrush, and then rinsing and drying. I then glued the figure to a 1.25" black-primed fender washer with Aleene's Tacky glue, and glued the washer to a tongue depressor with a couple drops of Elmer's White Glue.
I then painted him all black. When the black was dry, I went back over the figure and drybrushed all the metal parts, except the ax, with Ceramcoat "Metallic Pewter". I then repainted black any areas of the fur garments that had gotten the "Metallic Pewter" on them, and then drybrushed the upper fur garments with Folk Art "Medium Grey". I and then painted the lower garment with Americana "Asphaltum", and when dry, drybrushed it with Americana "Khaki Tan".
Next, I realized I had forgotten to drybrush the metal bits on the front of his shield, so I went back and drybrushed it with the "Metallic Pewter". Then, I painted all his skin with Aleene's "Deep Khaki". I followed this with painting his undershirt Folk Art "Deep Tomato Red". I then used a variety of my browns, red-browns, and mustard-browns to paint his many haphazard garments and straps. His main shirt, with the metal plates sewn on it, I painted with the "Asphaltum", and the big wide belt he wears, as well as the back of the shield, I painted with the Americana "Charcoal Grey". I painted the border around the shield with Folk Art "True Burgundy". The ax handle I painted Americana "Mississippi Mud".
I then painted all the hands tacked on his shield using a variety of flesh tones. The bone and one of the paper or cloth scraps I painted with Americana "Buttermilk. While I had this out, I also painted his teeth with it. I finished up by painting the hair and other fragments nailed on the shield. When everything was dry, I gave the whole figure a wash with thinned GW "Agrax Earthshade" wash.
After the wash had a good long time to dry, I went back and added in his eyes using the "Buttermilk" with black pupils added. I then highlighted his skin with the original "Deep Khaki", and then mixed a little lighter Aleene's "Dusty Khaki" into it to add some lighter skin highlights. I highlighter his garments with their original colors, and the same with the shield and the stuff nailed to it. The bone on the shield I used some white to highlight. Lastly, I used the "Metallic Pewter" to paint the metal parts of the ax. I then went back and highlighted the edges of the ax head with Folk Art "Silver Sterling".
I let the figure sit overnight, and the next morning I gave it a coat of Ceramcoat "Matte Varnish". Later that afternoon I flocked the base, and the next day I sprayed it with Testor's "Dullcote" spray varnish.
I'm pleased with how this fellow came out. He will be a nice commander for to my Bones orc horde.
I played another pair of "Song of Blades and Heroes" games using my Bones figures this past weekend; so I hope to have the battle reports posted on Thursday. So tune in then!

Orc Sniper (Archer) and Orc Hunter (Spear): Figures 49 & 50 of 265
This week I complete the last two of the orcs from the 30 New Bones set: the Orc Sniper (Archer) and the Orc Hunter (Spear). With the completion of these two figures, I reach the happy milestone of having 50 Bones completed. On to the next 50!
After washing them in some dish soap and letting them dry, I spray primed them with Krylon Camouflage with Fusion "Flat Black". When this dried, I glued the pair onto black primed 1.25 inch fender washers using Aleene's Tacky glue. I then glued them onto a tongue depressor, for ease of painting, using a couple drops of Elmer's white glue.
The first step I did in painting them was to give the figures a heavy drybrushing with Ceramcoat "Metallic Pewter". I then drybrushed the fur garment on the Archer using GW "Codex Grey" followed by GW "Fortress Grey". I knew there would be a little overlap of the fur color onto the chainmail since drybrushing isn't precise, but I did the best I could to keep the colors separate, knowing I would go back later and neaten the edges with a fine brush.
Next I painted their Tunics: Accent "Mustard Seed" for the Archer, and Folk Art "Dapple Grey" for the Spear Orc. I did their skin with Aleene's "Deep Khaki". Then, I did all he belts, wraps, straps, scabbard, and the quiver with Americana "Asphaltum". The boots and pouch of the Archer, and the top and bottom of the quiver, I did with Ceramcoat Walnut; with the fur tops of the boots drybrushed with Americana "Khaki Tan".
The spear's shaft, and the bow I painted with Crafters Edition "Spice Brown" I then painted the spear tip, and the metal fittings of the bow with the "Metallic Pewter", and used the this color with a fine brush to also clean up the spots on the edges of the chainmail that got the fur or tunic paint on them. Lastly, the fletchings were given a drybrushing with the "Codex Grey", their teeth were painted with GW "Bubonic Brown", and the stitching on the scabbard, quiver and belt were painted Americana "Mississippi Mud".
After all this had dried, I gave both figures a wash with GW "Devlan Mud" wash. When the wash had dried, I added highlights to their skin using the original "Deep Khaki" mixed with a little Aleene's "Dusty Khaki. I also highlighted their tunics with the original colors. I then painted the eyes with Americana "Buttermilk", and then I went back and added a black pupil in each eye. I also highlighted their teeth with the "Bubonic Brown". Finally, I added some GW "Chainmail" highlights to the Orcs' spear, armor, and chainmail.
After everything had dried overnight, I gave the figures a coat of Ceramcoat "Matte Varnish" and, when dry, flocked their bases. Another overnight dry, and I sprayed them with Testor's "Dullcote".
I think these fellows turned out very nicely. I can take a break from orcs for a while now, until I get to the Orcapocalypse set.

Bones Orc Marauder and Orc Stalker: Figures 37 and 38 of 265
This week
I complete two of the orcs from the Original 30 Bones set: the Orc Marauder and the Orc Stalker. After washing them in some dish soap and letting them dry, I spray primed them with Krylon Camouflage with Fusion "Flat Black". When this dried, I glued the pair onto black primed 1.25 inch fender washers using Aleene's Tacky glue. The first step I did in painting them was to give the figures a heavy drybrushing with Ceramcoat "Metallic Pewter". I then drybrushed their fur garments; using Americana "Asphaltum" followed by Americana "Mississippi Mud" for the orc with one sword, and GW "Codex Grey" followed by GW "Fortress Grey", and GW "Shadow Grey" followed by Duncan "Slate Blue" for the bottom and top respectively on the orc with two swords. I knew there would be a little overlap of the fur colors onto the chainmail since drybrushing isn't precise, but I did the best I could to keep the colors separate, knowing I would go back later and neaten the edges with a fine brush.
Next I painted their skin with Aleene's "Deep Khaki". I then did all he belts, wraps, pouches, and straps with plain black . On the orc with the two swords I did his wrist pieces and his sword hilt with the "Asphaltum."
I then painted the weapons with the "Metallic Pewter", and used the this color with a fine brush to also clean up the spots on the edges of the chainmail that got the fur paint on them.
I painted their teeth with Americana "Buttermilk". And the horn on the back of the two sword orc with GW "Kommando Khaki".
All in all, I'm pleased with how these orcs are turning out. It should be an impressive sight when I eventually gather the horde together.
