Elliwyn Heatherlark, Gnome Bard: Figure 258 of 266, or the 2nd of 10 Figures Remaining

   Over the weekend I finished up Elliwyn Heatherlark, Gnome Bard, from the Half-Sized Heroes set. I have already painted a couple figures from this set before, so there are only this figure, and one more left to go in this set.
     I prepped the figure in the usual way; soaking it in a dish of water with a couple drops of dish-soap added, then giving it a light scrub with a soft toothbrush, and then rinsing and drying it.  I then glued the figure to a white-primed 1" fender washer with Aleene's Tacky glue, and then glued the washer-mounted figure to a tongue depressor with a couple drops of the Elmer's glue.

     I began by giving the figure a wash with Reaper "Brown Liner" using a wet brush.  This was to help bring out the details so I could see them better.  I then painted the chainmail with Black, and then drybrushed it with Folk Art Metallics "Gunmetal Grey". I then went back and drybrushed on some light highlights with Folk Art "Silver Sterling".    Next, I painted her face with GW "Vermin Brown", and her leggings with Accent "Golden Oxide".

     I then painted her tabard with Crafter's Acrylic "Cinnamon Brown", and the sleeves of her undershirt with Ceramcoat "Territorial Beige". After that, I painted her boots with Americana "Asphaltum".

      Next, I used Americana "Raw Umber",  to paint her straps, backpack, sword grip, and pouches. I then painted her gloves, and the fur trim on her boots, with Folk Art "Barn Wood".  After that, I painted her hair with Folk Art "Platinum Grey". Then, after everything had a while to dry, I gave the figure a wash with Citadel "Agrax Earthshade" wash using a wet brush, and carefully avoiding the chainmail parts.

      When the wash was dry, I highlighted her hair with White.  I then painted her eyes, and then  highlighted her face with Americana "Terra Cotta".  Next, I mixed a little of the "Cinnamon Brown, and some Americana "Sable Brown", and highlighted her tabard. After that I painted her sword blade, and the back of her shield with Americana "Neutral Grey",  and then painted the face of her shield with Ceramcoat "Opaque Red".   I then painted the metal parts on her sword hilt, her horn, and her belt buckle with Apple Barrel "Apple Maple Syrup".

     Next, I highlighted her leggings with a mix of the "Golden Oxide" and the "Apple Maple Syrup", and I highlighted her gloves and boot tops with Americana "Bleached Sand" I painted the shield straps with Folk Art "Dark Brown", and then used that color to highlight her boots, straps pouches and backpack. I noticed there was something sticking from her backpack at that point; I think it was possibly meant to be another horn, but I decided to paint it like a scroll (perhaps rolled up sheet music), so I painted it with some Americana "Buttermilk", and did some quick "Bleached Sand" highlights.
     I then painted a musical note on her shield using Americana "Yellow", and highlighted with Crafter's Acrylic "Daffodil Yellow". After that, I went back and painted the sword hilt, horn, belt buckle, and the broach at her neck with Ceramcoat "Bronze" and then did highlights with Ceramcoat "14K Gold".  Then I painted her sword blade, and the buckles on her backpack, with the "Gunmetal Grey", and highlighted with the "Silver Sterling".  I went back and added gems to her belt and sword hilt using the "Opaque Red", and added little White highlights.  Lastly, I painted her integral base with Ceramcoat "Walnut".
           I let the figure dry over night and the next day I gave it a coat of Ceramcoat "Matte Varnish". When dry, I flocked the base. Another overnight dry, and I sprayed it with Testor's "Dullcote".

     I like how she turned out, though I really don't think having a horn makes her particularly look like a bard to me.  She looks more like a fighter in my opinion.

Lem, Iconic Bard: Figure 246 of 266

     Over the weekend I finished up Lem, Iconic Bard, from the Iconics II Pathfinder Miniatures set. I'm happy to say that completing this figure marks the 20 figures remaining point of my goal. It also means just one figure remaining in the Iconics II Pathfinder Miniatures set.
        I prepped the figure in the usual way; soaking it in a dish of water with a couple drops of dish- soap added, then giving it a light scrub with a soft toothbrush, and then rinsing and drying it.  I then glued the figure to a black-primed 1" fender washer with Aleene's Tacky glue, and then glued the washer-mounted figure to a tongue depressor with a couple drops of the Elmer's glue.

     I began by giving the figure a wash with Reaper "Brown Liner" using a wet brush.  This was to help bring out the details so I could see them better.   When that was dry, I painted all his skin with Americana "Mocha".  Next, I painted his pants with Americana "Sable Brown", and then painted his shirt with Americana "Dove Grey", and his coat with Ceramcoat "Black Cherry".

      Next, I painted the lining and facings on his coat with Accent "Golden Harvest", and then painted his sash with Crafter's Acrylic "Purple Passion". After that I painted his large pouch with Crafter's Edition "Spice Brown", and the smaller pouch next to it with Apple Barrel "Burnt Sienna".  I also painted the knife handle with Accent "Raw Umber". and his bandaged hand with Americana "Bleached Sand".   At that point I realized he had bare feet, and I painted those with the "Mocha".

            I pulled out the "Purple Passion" again and gave him spats that matched his sash; then I painted his hair with Folk Art "Dark Brown".  Next, I painted the knife blade and flute with Folk Art "Silver Sterling".   I then hit his necklace with some Ceramcoat "Bronze".    Then, after everything had a while to dry, I experimented with giving the figure a wash again with the "Brown Liner" applied with a wet brush, instead of my usual Citadel "Agrax Earthshade".    I wasn't very happy with how it dried, as it ended up making the figure look really dirty.

    Next, I painted his eyes, and then highlighted his skin with the base "Mocha"; and followed up by highlighting his hair with  the "Sable Brown".  I then highlighted his shirt with White, and his coat with a mix of Americana "Burgundy Wine" and Crafters Acrylic "Tutti Frutti".  Then I highlighted his pants and large pouch with Americana "Khaki Tan", and his jacket lining and facings with Apple Barrel "Yellow".  After that I did his sash and spats with Apple Barrel "Apple Lavender" and then did his bandaged hand with Crafter's Acrylic "Light Antique White".  Lastly, I highlighted his flute and knife blade with the Silver Sterling", then painted his integral base with Ceramcoat "Walnut".
           I let the figure dry over night and the next day I gave it a coat of Ceramcoat "Matte Varnish" and, when dry, flocked the base.  Another overnight dry, and I sprayed it with Testor's Dullcote".

     Well, he's not my best or favorite figure, but he's serviceable for gaming purposes.  It's such an odd little figure, it will be interesting to see if I ever have cause to use him in a game.

Astrid, Female Bard: Figure 155 of 265

    This week I painted Astrid, Female Bard from the Klocke Classics Set.  Only one more from this set left to do. (Yay!)  This is an odd figure, seeming almost fifty percent 80's/90s glam rock-star and fifty percent actual fantasy-age  bard.  Having recently seen a trailer for the upcoming live-action Jem and the Holograms movie, I decided to paint her a little more towards the 80's/90's rock star.
     I prepped the figure in the usual way; soaking it in a dish of water with a couple drops of dish- soap added, then giving it a light scrub with a soft toothbrush, and then rinsing and drying.   I then glued the figure to a 1" black-primed fender washer with Aleene's Tacky glue, and glued the washer to a tongue depressor with a couple drops of Elmer's White Glue.
     I forgot to take a starter picture of the unpainted figure.   I began painting by giving her a wash with thinned black ink with a tiny pin-point drop of dishsoap added to help it flow into the crevices and help show the sculpting outlines.  When the ink was dry, I painted her outfit, guitar(?), and part of her boots with Apple Barrel "Apple Light Pink".   When that was dry, I gave the pink parts a wash with Iron Wind Metals "Red" ink using a wet brush.  When the ink was dry, I drybrushed the pink parts with the base "Apple Light Pink".  I then painted the front-piece to her outfit, scabbard, and the rest of her boots with Anita's "Violet".

     I then painted her skin with Americana "Mocha".   I next painted the  sword hilt and her backpacks with Americana "Zinc", and the strings on her instrument with Folk Art "Platinum Grey". The scrolls (sheet music?) in the upper backpack I painted with Apple Barrel "Apple Parchment". Her belts and straps I painted with GW "Liche Purple"

     I painted her hair with Folk Art "Dark Brown"; and when everything was good and dry, I gave her skin, hair, and the grey parts a wash with Winsor-Newton "Peat Brown" ink using a wet brush.  I then thinned some of the ink a little and went over the purple parts also.

     When the ink was good and dry, I drybrushed her hair with Americana "Sable Brown".  I realized at this point that I had missed an elvish ear sticking out of the hair, so I painted that with the "Mocha", and when dry put a little of the "Peat Brown" ink on it.  Next, I painted her eyes.  I had wanted to do a big pink or purple star over one of her eyes, but I had had a little trouble doing the eyes in the first place,  and the way her head was tilted down and the hair hung in front of her face, made me decided to stop while I was ahead.  I painted her lips with Americana "Shading Flesh", and then mixed a little White in to do lip highlights.  I then did highlights on all her skin using the base "Mocha", then I added a little white to the"Mocha" and did some finer highlights.  I added a section of purple to the guitar using the "Violet".  I then added some Apple Barrel "Lavender" to the "Violet" and did highlights on all the purple parts.  I used Ceramcoat "Bronze" to paint some of the  smaller instrument parts and some decorations on her sleeves.  I then went back and added highlights to these with Cermacoat "14K Gold".  Lastly, I painted the white base with Ceramcoat "Walnut".
      I let the figure sit overnight, and the next morning I gave it a coat of Ceramcoat "Matte Varnish".  Later that afternoon I flocked the base.   The next day I sprayed the figure with Testor's Dullcote.

   I'm pleased with how she came out, though I think in general it is a silly figure.
