Townsfolk Milkmaid: Bones 4 Figure

This past week, with all our Christmas preperations going on, I didn't have a lot of time for painting; so I selected the Milkmaid from the Bones 4 Core Set Townsfolk II group to work on.
     I prepped the figure in the usual way, soaking it in a dish of water with a couple drops of dish-soap added, then giving it a light scrub with a soft toothbrush, and then rinsing and drying it.  I then glued the figure to a black-primed 1" fender washer with Aleene's Tacky glue, and then placed the figure in my painting grip.

     I began by painting her skin with Reaper MSP "Tanned Skin", and then her dress with Reaper MSP Bones "Tropical Blue".  I then painted her apron, shirt, and bonnet with Americana "Grey Sky", and after that I did her bucket with Ceramcoat :territorial Beige", and the rope handle with Folk Art "Barn Wood".

     After the paint had time to dry, I applied a thinned wash of Iron wind metals "Dark Blue" Ink to the dress.  When that was dry, I did a coat of Citadel "Reikland Fleshshade" wash to her skin, and when it was dry, a coat of Citadel "Nuln Oil" to her apron, shirt, and bonnet. I followed with a coat of Citidel "Agrax Earthsahde" to her bucket.

     When all the washes were dry, I painted her eyes, and then highlighted her face with Reaper MSP "Tanned Highlight", and I mixed in a little Americana "Shading Flesh" to paint her lips.

     Next, I highlighted her dress using, first, the base "Tropical Blue", then Crafter's Acrylic  "Tropical Blue", and finally Crafter's Acrylic "Cool Blue".  I then highlighted her shirt, apron, and bonnet, using Americana "Snow White".  After that, I did the highlights on the bucket using Folk Art "Butter Pecan", and the rope using the base "Barn Wood".  Lastly, I painted the entire base with Americana "Mississippi Mud".
      I let the figure dry overnight and the next day I gave it a coat of Americana "DuraClear Matte" varnish. I then used some white glue to glue some fine sand to the base.  When the sand was dry, I painted it with a coat of Americana "Raw Umber". When this was dry, I drybrushed the sand with the "Territorial Beige", and then with some of the "Butter Pecan"; lastly I drybrushed it with a little Americana "Bleached Sand".
      Another overnight dry, and I sprayed the figure with Testor's Dullcote".

     Considering it was a very quick paint job, squeezed in here and there as time permitted, I am pleased. 

Bergamot, Halfling Scout: Bones 4 Dreadmere Figure

    This past week I painted Bergamot, Halfling Scout, from the Bones 4 Dreadmere Expansion.
    I prepped the figure in the usual way, soaking it in a dish of water with a couple drops of dish-soap added, then giving it a light scrub with a soft toothbrush, and then rinsing and drying it.  I then glued the figure to a black-primed 1" fender washer with Aleene's Tacky glue, and then placed the figure in my painting grip.
    I began by painting his face and feet with Reaper MSP "Rosy Flesh" before I realized I hadn't taken a beginning "blank canvas" photo.

      I then painted his pants Accent "Real Umber", and his shirt with Apple Barrel "Lemon Chiffon".  I wasn't sure about the pleats in his pants and whether they were supposed to be armor...they looked like armor, but I thought it odd for him to just be wearing leg armor. For the time being I painted them like some sort of fancy pants. :)  I also painted his vest with Pathfinder MSP "Urgathoa Red"

      Next, I painted his cape with Ceramcoat "Territorial Beige", and his hair (head and feet) with Americana "Asphaltum".  After that, I painted his sword belt with Americana "Light Cinnamon", and his gauntlet with Americana "Faun".

      I then painted the scabbard with Americana "Cranberry Wine", and the metal fittings on it and the belt with Americana "Zinc".   After that, I painted the lamp with Accent "Golden Oxide", and the grip on the sword with Americana "Raw Umber".

     Next, I pained the metal parts of the sword and belt with Folk Art Metallics "Gunmetal Grey", and the lamp and vest buttons with Folk Art "Brushed Metal "Brushed Bronze". I let the paint dry for a while, and then I began with the washes.  First I applied a coat of Citadel "Reikland Feleshade" wash to the face and feet.  When that was dry, I applied Citadel "Agrax Earthshade" to the rest of the figure.
     When all the washes were dry, I began work on the face, painting the eyes and then highlighting all the skin with Reaper MSP "Rosy Highlight".  After that I highlighted the hair with Americana "Sable Brown", and then a little of the "Faun".

     I then highlighted his cape using first Folk Art "Butter Pecan", and then mixing in a little Americana "Bleached Sand" in to the ""Butter Pecan".  I then used the "Bleached Sand" to highlight his gauntlet.  After that, I highlighted his shirt with the base "Lemon Chiffon", and I highlighted his vest and the scabbard with some Americana "Burgundy Wine", mixd with a hint of Crafter's Acrylic "Tutti Frutti".

     Next, I highlighted his pants with some Nicole's "Brown", and his belt with the "Sable Brown".  I then I turned to the lamp.   I first painted the openings with Reaper MSP "Clear Yellow", then placed an area of the "Lemon Chiffon" in each opening followed by a dot of Americana "Snow White".   I then worked on the metals, highlighting the frame of the lamp, and his vest buttons with Ceramcoat "Wedding Gold"; and afterwards, highlighting the sword fittings and leg armor with Citadel "Mithril Silver".  Lastly, I painted the base with Americana "Mississippi Mud".

      I let the figure dry overnight and the next day I gave it a coat of Americana "DuraClear Matte" varnish.    Then, when  the varnish was dry, I used some white glue to flock the base.  Another overnight dry, and I sprayed it with Testor's "Dullcote". 

     I'm very happy with how this fellow turned out. He's a great little figure and full of character.

Stone Giant Champion: Bones 4 Lost Valley Figure

 This past week I painted the Stone Giant Champion from the Bones 4 Lost Valley Expansion.  Readers may remember that I had painted the Stone Giant Guard back in September, and for this one I figured for the most part I'd just copy how I had done that one.

I had forgotten to take a picture of the figure before I started, so here's a shot of the model from one of the Kickstarter updates.

     I prepped the figure in the usual way, soaking it in a dish of water with a couple drops of dish-soap added, then giving it a light scrub with a soft toothbrush, and then rinsing and drying it.   Then, after trimming the figure's integral base a little, I glued the figure to a black-primed 2" fender washer with Aleene's Tacky glue, and then used some Elmer's glue to glue it to the top of a pill bottle. I used some green stuff epoxy putty to help blend the trimmed integral base to the washer.
     Then, shortly after beginning, I realized that the buttons on her dress looked faceted, like they were meant to be gemstones; so I decided rather than try and paint them as such, I was going to try and replace them with actual craft gems.  So they got sliced off with a hobby knife.

     The first painting I did was to paint his skin, using an equal mix of part Crafters Acrylic "Storm Cloud Grey" and Folk Art "Milkshake".  I then painted her dress with Citadel "The Fang", and then did the handle of her rock-pick looking weapon with Americana "Light Cinnamon".

          Next, I painted her shoes, belts and straps with Americana "Charcoal Grey", and then I painted the strings holding the object to her right calf, and holding the skull on her left hip, using Ceramcoat "Territorial Beige".  I then painted the two bands on her upper arms and her necklace with Accent "Golden Harvest", and the two wrist bands with Accent "Mustard Seed". After that, I painted he two rune stones hanging from her belts with Americana "Burgundy Wine", painted the basket at her hip with Reaper MSP "Golden Brown", and painted the skull with Folk Art "Butter Pecan". I moved on to painting the sheath of the dagger on her right thigh with Americana "Asphaltum", and the grip with the "Mustard Seed"; followed with painting the icon(?) on her calf with Reaper MSP HD "Rich Indigo".

     I then painted all the metal bits with Americana "Zinc", and I painted the inside of the mouth with Americana "Shading Flesh".  I felt at first glance it looked like her tongue was extended, so I painted it that way with the "Shading Flesh".  I put the figure aside to dry for a while, then when I came back I gave the entire thing a coat of Citadel "Nuln Oil" wash. 

       When the wash was dry, I painted the eyes, and then highlighted the skin with some of the base "Milkshake" mixed with the "Storm Cloud Grey", and added a bit of the lighter Americana "Dove Grey" for the lighter highlights.

     Next, I highlighted her dress, using the base "The Fang" mixed with Folk Art "Cloudy Day". After that, I highlighted all her belts and straps using the base "Charcoal Grey" mixed with some Americana "Mississippi Mud", and I highlighted the basket at her hip using Ceramcoat "Maple Sugar Tan".

     I then highlighted the skull, first with Americana "Antique White", and then Crafter's Acrylic "Light Antique White".   Next, I highlighted the icon strapped to her calf using a bit of the "Rich Indigo" mixed with some Americana "Snow White".  I did the dagger then, highlighting the sheath with the "Territorial Beige", and the grip with some of the "Maple Sugar Tan" mixed with the base "Mustard Seed".  I also used this mix to highlight the wrist bands.  After that, I worked on the icons hanging from her belts, highlighting them with the base "Burgundy Wine" mixed with some of the "Snow White".   I then highlighted the handle of her rock-pick using Americana "Sable Brown"
      Now it was time for the metallics.  I painted the arm bands and necklace with Folk Art "Brushed Metal "Brushed Bronze", and when dry, I went over them doing highlights with Ceramcoat "Wedding Gold".  I then painted the head of the rock-pick, the buckles and all the various studs, with Folk Art Metallics "Gunmetal Grey", and when dry, highlighted everything with Citadel "Mithril Silver". Lastly, I painted the base with Americana "Mississippi Mud".
      I let the figure dry overnight and the next day I gave it a coat of Americana "DuraClear Matte" varnish.    Then, when  the varnish was dry, I used some white glue to flock the base.  Another overnight dry, and I sprayed it with Testor's "Dullcote".  When the "Dullcote" was dry, I used Gorilla Supeglue to affix a trio of tiny nail gems to the studs on her dress.

     In general I'm pretty happy with her.  I don't like the way her eyes came out, but you get to a point after messing around with them for an extended period of time that you just have to concede defeat and move on.  :P

Townsfolk Beggar: Bones 4 Figure

     This past week I didn't have a lot of time for painting, so I selected the Beggar from the Bones 4 Core Set Townsfolk group to work on.
     I prepped the figure in the usual way, soaking it in a dish of water with a couple drops of dish-soap added, then giving it a light scrub with a soft toothbrush, and then rinsing and drying it.  I then glued the figure to a black-primed 1" fender washer with Aleene's Tacky glue, and then placed the figure in my painting grip.

      I began by painting his face, hands and foot with Reaper MSP "Tanned Shadow", and his pants with Americana "Charcoal Grey".  I then painted his tunic Pathfinder MSP "Medusa Green", and his cape with Americana "Neutral Grey".

Next, I painted his boots with Americana "Aspahltum", and his staff with Reaper MSP "Turkey Brown".  I then painted his bowl with Americana "Mississippi Mud", and then painted his hair with Crafter's Acrylic "Cinnamon Brown."  After that,  I painted his patches an assortment of colors I had sitting around the painting table.

      I painted his belt with Nicole's "Brown", and then let the figure dry for awhile. When the paint was good and dry, I began with the washes.  First I applied a coat of Citadel "Reikland Feleshade" wash to the face hands and foot.  When that was dry, I applied Citadel "Nuln Oil" wash to the cape.  When that was dry, I applied Citadel "Agrax Earthshade" to the rest of the figure.

     When all the washes were dry, I began work on the face, painting the eyes and his single tooth, and then highlighting all the skin with Reaper MSP "Tanned Skin" and "Tanned Highlight".  After that I highlighted the hair with Americana "Sable Brown", and then highlighted the pants with a mix of the "Mississippi Mud" and the base "Charcoal Grey".  After that I highlighted the tunic with Americana "Jade Green".

     Next, I highlighted the cape with some Crafter's Acrylic 'Storm Cloud Grey", and a bit of Americana "Grey Sky".  I then did the stitching on the back of the cape with Americana "Charcoal", and highlighted the boots with the "Cinnamon Brown".  After that I highlighted the staff with Folk Art "Butter Pecan", and the bowl with Americana "Fawn".  I then hit the clasp on the cape and his belt buckle with Accent "Princely Pewter".  Lastly, I did some quick highlighting n the patches, and then painted the entire base with the"Mississippi Mud".

      I let the figure dry overnight and the next day I gave it a coat of Americana "DuraClear Matte" varnish. I then used some white glue to glue some fine sand to the base.  When the sand was dry, I painted it with a coat of Americana "Raw Umber". When this was dry, I drybrushed the sand with Ceramcoat "Territorial Beige", and then with some of the "Butter Pecan"; lastly I drybrushed it with a little of the "Bleached Sand".

      Another overnight dry, and I sprayed the figure with Testor's Dullcote".

     A nice simple figure; not my best, but an easy and fun paint.

Merrowyn Lightstar, Female Elf Paladin: Bones 4 Figure

     This past week I painted Merrowyn Lightstar, Female Elf Paladin, from the Bones 4 Original Core Set.  Like last week's figure, I needed this elf to act as a commander for a game I was going to be doing at the Fall-In convention this past weekend.
      I prepped the figure in the usual way, soaking it in a dish of water with a couple drops of dish-soap added, then giving it a light scrub with a soft toothbrush, and then rinsing and drying it.  I then glued the figure to a black-primed 1" fender washer with Aleene's Tacky glue, and then placed the figure in my painting grip.

  I started by painting the figure entirely with Ceramcoat "Black".  When the Black was dry, I drybrushed the figure with  Folk Art Metallics "Gunmetal Grey".  I then passed over it with a lighter drybrush of Citadel "Mithril Silver".

      Next, I painted the face and hands with Crafter's Acrylic "Flesh", and then the cloth  with Americana "Wedgewood Blue".  I then painted the scabbards, and belts with Americana "True Blue", and the sword blade with Americana "Zinc".  After that, I painted the shield with Reaper MSP Bones "Tropical Blue", and the back of the shield with Crafter's Acrylic "Navy Blue". I then did her hair with Americana "Light Cinnamon", and the sword grip with Americana "Asphaltum". I also painted the border of the shield with Americana "Grey Sky", and did the metal canister at her waist with Reaper MSP "Aged Pewter".
     I let everything dry for a while, and then gave the face and hands a coat of  Citadel "Reikland Fleshshade" wash.   When that was dry, I gave the clothing, scabbards, and shield, all a coat of Citadel "Nuln Oil" wash.  Lastly, I gave her hair a coat of Citadel "Agrax Earthshade" wash.

      When the washes all were dry, I painted her eyes using the "True Blue", and then highlighted her skin with an unnamed Reaper Sample paint I have.  After that, I highlighted her hair, first with the some Americana "Sable Brown" and then with some Americana "Fawn".

 Next, I highlighted her waist drape with some of the base color "Wedgewood Blue" mixed with some Crafter's Acrylic "Dark Turquoise".  I also highlighted the shield with Crafter's Acrylic "Tropical Blue".   After that, I highlighted his boots and scabbards with the Reaper MSP "Tropical Blue", and then used Americana "Snow White" to paint the decoration on the shield, and highlight the border. 

     I then moved on to the metallics, painting the sword with the "Gunmetal Grey", and then doing highlights with the "Mithril Silver".   Lastly, I painted the base with Americana "Mississippi Mud".

      I let the figure dry overnight and the next day I gave it a coat of Americana "DuraClear Matte" varnish.    Then, when  the varnish was dry, I used some white glue to flock the base.  Another overnight dry, and I sprayed it with Testor's "Dullcote".

     I'm pleased with how she came out considering she got a very rushed job done on her.  She performed well in the game however, helping to defeat a Giant  that was allied with a squad of Dwarves which blocked the road  down which she and her company were trying to advance.

As requested, here is a photo of the shield.  It was rushed, so doesn't look its best this close up.  :)

Alandin, Elf Paladin: Bones 4 Figure

   This past week I painted Alandin, Elf Paladin, from the Bones 4 Core Set Elves group.  I needed a couple more leader figures for the Elf forces I'm using for my Feudal Patrol game at Fall-In, and thought this fellow looked suitably like a commander.  I planned to paint him in the same colors I used for the rest of my Elf Army to help him blend in.
  I prepped the figure in the usual way, soaking it in a dish of water with a couple drops of dish-soap added, then giving it a light scrub with a soft toothbrush, and then rinsing and drying it.  I then glued the figure to a black-primed 1" fender washer with Aleene's Tacky glue, and then placed the figure in my painting grip.

      I started by painting the figure entirely with Ceramcoat "Black".  When the Black was dry, I drybrushed the figure with  Folk Art Metallics "Gunmetal Grey".  I then passed over it with a lighter drybrush of Citadel "Mithril Silver".

     Next, I painted the face and hands with Crafter's Acrylic "Flesh", and the tunic with Americana "Wedgewood Blue".  I then painted the cape with Crafter's Acrylic "Tropical Blue", and the boots, scabbards, and belt with Americana "True Blue".  After that, I painted the shield with Reaper MSP Bones "Tropical Blue", and the back of the shield with Crafter's Acrylic "Navy Blue".

     I then painted the sword and the armor on the boots with  Americana "Zinc".  I also painted the grips of the sword and the dagger with Americana "Asphaltum". After that, I painted the decorations on the shield and the scabbard with Americana "Grey Sky".  I also used this color to do a simple border design on the bottom of the cape.   I also did his hair at this point with Americana "Bleached Sand".

        Next, I let everything dry for a while, and then gave the faces and hands a coat of  Citadel "Reikland Fleshshade" wash.   When that was dry, I gave the clothing, scabbards, and shield, all a coat of Citadel "Nuln Oil" wash.  Lastly, I gave his hair a coat of Citadel "Agrax Earthshade" wash.

     When the washes all were dry, I painted his eyes, and then highlighted his skin with an unnamed Reaper Sample paint I have.  After that, I highlighted his hair, first with the base "Bleached Sand", and then with some Americana "Snow White".

     Next, I highlighted his tunic with some of the base color "Wedgewood Blue" mixed with some Crafter's Acrylic "Dark Turquoise".   I then highlighted the cape with some of the base Crafter's Acrylic  "Tropical Blue" mixed with Crafter's Acrylic "Cool Blue". I also highlighted the shield with the Crafter's Acrylic "Tropical Blue".   After that, I highlighted his boots and scabbards with the Reaper MSP "Tropical Blue", and then used the "Snow White" to highlight the decoration on the shield, the cross stitching on the scabbard, and the border decoration on the cape.  I also did some piping on the tunic with the "Snow White". 
     I then moved on to the metallics, painting the sword and armor on the boots with the "Gunmetal Grey", and then doing highlights with the "Mithril Silver".   Lastly, I painted the base with Americana "Mississippi Mud".
      I let the figure dry overnight and the next day I gave it a coat of Americana "DuraClear Matte" varnish.    Then, when  the varnish was dry, I used some white glue to flock the base.  Another overnight dry, and I sprayed it with Testor's "Dullcote".

     I'm happy with how this turned out.  It's just a quick figure for gaming, but I think it ended up looking pretty good.

Dark Dwarves "Striker", "Smiter" and "Cleaver": Bones 4 Fan Favorite Figures

      This past week I painted a pair of the Dark Dwarf "Striker", "Smiter", and a pair of the "Cleaver" figures, from the Bones 4 Fan Favorites Expansion.    I wanted to use these for a unit of regular Dwarves, having more gaming use for them that way than painted up as Dark Dwarves; and while they're a little more ragged looking than the average Dwarf, I thought they'd fill the bill of a  unit of normal Dwarves just fine. Maybe hard worn veterans.  Last week I painted the first half of my unit, doing the "Irontongue Priests" and "Pounder" figures from this set.
       I prepped the figures in the usual way, soaking them in a dish of water with a couple drops of dish-soap added, then giving them a light scrub with a soft toothbrush, and then rinsing and drying them.  I then glued them to 1" black-primed fender washers with Aleene's Tacky glue.  I then glued the figures in onto tongue depressors.

      I started with the two "Striker" figures and the "Smiter"; painting them entirely with Ceramcoat "Black".  When the Black was dry, I drybrushed the figure with  Folk Art Metallics "Gunmetal Grey".  I then passed over it with a lighter drybrush of Ceramcoat "Metallic Silver".
      Next, I painted their tunics and shields with Reaper MSP "Fresh Blood", and their faces and hands with Americana "Shading Flesh".   After that, I painted the spikes on their shields with Americana "Zinc", and then their hammers with Reaper MSP "Aged Pewter".

      I then painted the beards and eyebrows on the first and third with Americana "Neutral Grey", and the beard and eyebrows on the center one with some  Americana"Asphaltum".  I also painted the eyepatches with the "Black".   Next, I let everything dry for a while, and then gave their faces and hands a coat of  Citadel "Reikland Fleshshade" wash.   When that was dry, I gave the tunics, shields, and the center beard a coat of Citadel "Agrax Earthshade" wash. Lastly, I gave the beards on the first and third a coat of Citadel "Nuln Oil" wash. After that, I painted the two pouches on the "Smiter" with Americana "Raw Umber" for one, and Americana "Mississippi Mud" for the other.

      I let all the washes dry,  and then I painted their eyes, and then highlighted their faces and hands with Crafter's Acrylic "Flesh".  After that, I highlighted the first and third's beards with Americana "Grey Sky", and the center one's beard with Americana "Sable Brown".  Next, I highlighted the tunics and shields with Reaper MSP "Holly Berry", and the spikes on the shiled with Crafter's Acrylic "Storm Cloud Grey".  After that, I did spot highlights on the armor and weapons with the "Metallic Silver". Lastly, I painted the bases with the "Mississippi Mud".

        At this point I moved on to the two "Cleaver" figures, painting them entirely with the "Black".  When the Black was dry, I drybrushed the figure with the "Gunmetal Grey".  I then passed over it with a lighter drybrush of the "Metallic Silver".

     Next, I painted their tunics and shields with Reaper MSP "Fresh Blood", and their faces and hands with the "Shading Flesh".   After that, I painted their pouches with Americana "Asphaltum", thier beards with Reaper MSP Pathfinder "Urgathoa Red", and then their hammers with the "Aged Pewter".

       Next, I painted the spikes on the shilds with the "Zinc".   After that, I let everything dry for a while, and then gave their faces and hands a coat of the "Reikland Fleshshade" wash.   When that was dry, I gave the tunics and the beards a coat of Citadel "Agrax Earthshade" wash.

  I let all the washes dry,  and then I painted their eyes, and then highlighted their faces and hands with Crafter's Acrylic "Flesh".  After that, I highlighted their beards with Reaper MSP HD "Rusty Red".  Next, I did highlights on the pouches with the "Mississippi Mud", and highlighted the tunics highlights with the "Holly Berry".  After that, I did spot highlights on the armor and weapons with the "Metallic Silver". Lastly, I painted the bases with "Americana "Mississippi Mud"

 I let all the figures dry overnight and the next day I gave them a coat of Americana "DuraClear Matte" varnish.    Then, when  the varnish was dry, I used some white glue to flock the bases.  Another overnight dry, and I sprayed them with Testor's "Dullcote".

     I'm really happy with this unit turned out and was even lucky to be able to use them in a game last Friday!  I will be using them again in a game I'm doing at the Fall-In convention in a couple weeks.
